About our Principal Consultant, Mr. Bob Cove, CPP, CISM

After initial training and employment as a microbiologist for seven years, Bob served for twenty-three years as an Army Officer in the Royal Australian Corps of Signals, specialising in information and communications security. Of distinct import during the latter parts of his Defence service were a period of employment within the Defence Signals Directorate, four years managing the Defence Cryptographic Authority, with responsibility for all of Defence’s cryptographic assets, and two years as Defence Voice Manager, with responsibility for all of Defence’s voice and video networks. Retiring from the ARA in 2003, Bob continues to serve in the Army Reserve, and is currently re-writing Defence's doctrine on Information Assurance.

In 2001, Bob was one of the very first to be accredited by the Australian Signals Directorate to assess Commonwealth and other agencies’ IT systems to Commonwealth best practice standards under the Infosec Registered Assessor Program. In 2003 he gained an internationally recognized general security certification through ASIS International as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP).

In 2012, he assisted Defence with the security aspects of their system upgrade from Windows XP to a Windows Server 2008 environment, including the introduction of Active Directory and associated system configuration and management services. Most recently, Bob has conducted I-RAP IT System certifications for a number of private companies which process information for Commonwealth departments and agencies.

One of the very first I-RAP Assessors, Bob has been continuously accredited by the Australian Signals Directorate since 2001 to assess and certify Commonwealth and other agencies’ IT systems to Commonwealth best practice standards under the Infosec Registered Assessor Program.
